Over 100 animals have been rescued from a veterinarian’s residence in Sandusky County, Ohio, following allegations of severe neglect. Authorities executed a search warrant and found a variety of animals, including dogs, cats, goats, alpacas, and birds, living in conditions described as “consistent with large-scale neglect.”
The Sandusky County Animal Cruelty Division, along with Humane World for Animals, conducted the rescue. Reports detail unsanitary conditions, with animals intermingled and showing signs of illness. The veterinarian, Dr. Laura Hirt, has been indicted on felony counts of cruelty to companion animals. The animals are now receiving veterinary care at undisclosed locations.
